This
film opening got full marks and it is quite easy to understand why:
-
The genre is extremely evident, lots of conventions are included. For example,
the blood and the boy standing behind the car at the end. The music also helps
to illustrate the genre.
-
The representations are good as young boys walking home from school and wanting
to explore is something that would happen.
-
The Mise en Scene is also powerful as the setting is eerie and relevant to the
genre, the lighting is very good as it is filmed during the day but the weather
is very dull and grey which adds to the scary effect. The use of the deserted
setting is also very effective as it allows the boy being hit by the car to
stand out a lot more.
-
The child actors make the film seem a lot more realistic
-
The titles are good and match the overall tone of the film, they're not too in
your face.
-
The shots are powerful and look very professional, especially the one with the
mud puddle.
-
The transitions are mostly straight cuts which makes the film more realistic
and makes it scarier.
it is my favourite because it makes me question what happened to the boy and makes me want to watch the full film.
